Death by notes

The mountain notes in my musculo clinic is the most challenging aspect of the placement so far. For a new patient, I have written up to nine pagers of notes. And this is the standard amount for all of us who are there. I think it’s really good that we need to analyse every part of the assessment and treatment process, but I’m finding some of the notes repetitive and redundant. We have to write the problem list and plan for the patient three times in three different ways.

Gosh MIkey, that sounds painful!!! LIke you, i understand the need for our supervisors to see our thought processes but really 9 PAGES sounds like a bit of overkill!! Do you think you could feed that back in a professionally appropriate way?? I hope you get some valuable experience from it, it will put you in a good place for the PCR which is a positive for sure!! Enjoy your week!

Hi Mike, Interestingly I have had the opposite problem. Even though I have never written any where near close to 9 pages, apparantly I am too thorough. I think every physio has different ideas about how much to write and once you're graduated you can decide for yourself what you're happy with. You're the one who has to answer in court about any notes you write but really, 9 pages sounds insane. Maybe try abbreviating - gosh, I have no idea what you can possibly fill 9 pages with - maybe just write smaller :)
